What the numbers include
Total outlay is your deposit, upfront fees, all regular repayments and the final balloon. Finance cost is the interest and fees above the amount before deposit.
Enter the annual interest rate, not a comparison rate. The tool adds the fees you enter separately. If a quote already includes a financed fee in its loan amount, subtract that fee before entering the amount before deposit.
Keep the comparison fair
Use the same purchase price or refinance balance in both scenarios. A longer term or larger balloon can lower repayments while increasing the overall cost. A balloon remains payable at the end.
For refinancing, include any exit or break costs in the upfront fees and compare the remaining term of your current loan with the full new term. This tool does not calculate early payout figures. It supports whole-year terms from 1 to 7 years.
For more on comparing loans, read MoneySmart’s car loan guide.
Estimates only, not a lender offer, approval, comparison rate or personal financial advice. Calculations assume a fixed annual rate, regular payments in arrears and 52 weekly, 26 fortnightly or 12 monthly payments each year. Monthly account fees are spread across that schedule. Totals use unrounded repayments; displayed amounts are rounded. Actual lender timing, rounding, fees and terms may differ. Only the fees you enter are included. Confirm the lender’s written quote and final payout amount.
